“We found the original paint still on a board, and we will
be able to match it,” Jerry Groothouse says. The interior
walls were never finished because the building was used for
freight. The floor is made of wide boards.
Nichoson, who says he loved trains when he was a kid, is
happy the old building was moved.
“What’s important about this move is that it’s not going to
be burned or torn down,” he says. “It’s safe.”
The original Fort Pierce passenger depot was halfway between
Orange Avenue and Avenue A on Depot Drive. It was
torn down about 1967.
