Cheers to you
It seems that everyone can use a rousing hip hip hooray once in awhile. And in our
spring issue of Port St. Lucie Magazine there is plenty to cheer about.
With spring, comes the sounds of baseball and rousing renditions of Take Me Out to
the Ball Game during spring training games. This season, fans will be happy to hear that the
Mets will play a record 17 home games at Tradition Field. Page 8.
Kudos to the Gulash family whose very expensive and arduous experience in eradicating
Chinese drywall in their PGA Village home is recounted by writer Greg Gardner in “Back
from the Brink” on Page 10.
If you’re looking for a place to go for a cold one, where everyone knows your name, then
writer Susan Burgess’ story on Page 32 will fill you in on what’s brewing on the craft beer
scene.
Updates on the city’s Crosstown Parkway Extension Project Page 40 and plans to
extend the Riverwalk between Veterans Memorial Park and Westmoreland Park Page 46
will have commuters and nature lovers cheering the good news.
It’s a dirty job but Gary Smith loves picking up litter around the city with help from an
army of volunteers. On Page 54, writer Debra McGrann explains how the retired attorney
from Pittsburgh went from torts to trash.
Jamar Chaney, profiled by Gardner on Page 56, is returning to where he first heard cheers
while playing football for St. Lucie West Centennial High School. The former NFL linebacker,
who has taken over the reins as head coach, hopes to hear more cheers when the Eagles
take the field this football season.
And ending on an upbeat note is a profile of Jason “Billy” Hatfield, a transplanted Alaskan
who has led the band at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition since
the doors opened in 2008 Page 58.
