Mets to play record home games;
unveil security rules for spring training
New York Mets tickets have been selling quickly as
the team will play a record 17 home games during
this year’s spring training.
The Mets (87 wins, 75 losses) made the playoffs
last year only to lose in a one-game playoff to the San Francisco
Giants.
The Mets at home will face seven different teams including
the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves for one game
and three against the Washington Nationals, who made
the playoffs last year. The largest crowds are expected for
the home games with the Red Sox, Nationals and St. Louis
Cardinals.
Tradition Field and the Mets will also host the Florida
Marlins and the Houston Astros for four games, the St.
Louis Cardinals for three visits and the Detroit Tigers twice.
New Major League Baseball security rules have tightened
for entry to practice facilities and people should prepare
for security checks with metal detectors. The Mets prohibit
selfie sticks, folding chairs, drones, air horns, full-size ball
bats, food and drink.
Parking and practice field admission is free with gates
opening about 9:30 a.m.
Former football star Tim Tebow is expected to practice
within the Mets minor league system with no word on
whether he will play in any spring training games.
The Mets have a strong stable of pitchers and hope they
will stay healthy to get the team to the playoffs for the
second year in a row. The 2015 team won the National
League pennant, but lost in the World Series to Kansas City
in five games. E
