Side Door owner Dwayne Buchholz worked for decades as a general contractor
and landscaper before opening his brewery and pub.
slightly from the pre-shutdown times, sales have made a
nice recovery, Buchholz said.
“It wasn’t easy,” the Side Door owner said. “We made use
of every financial parachute available in an effort to keep
staff and payroll going throughout the pandemic. Sales
dropped and we have incurred a large amount of debt. But
I am very optimistic about the future.”
Side Door’s seventh year begins on Dec. 5, which gives a
clue as to how the place got its name. Buchholz pulled the
name from the practice of patrons entering the side doors of
illegal bars during Prohibition, which ran from Jan. 17, 1919
to Dec. 5, 1933.
