While the rest of the country celebrates the first day of summer, Floridians brace for it. It marks the beginning of hurricane season, as well as the return of relentless heat, humidity, and mosquitoes. Despite all that, I still love summer. It’s a little quieter; the pace is a little slower; and we adapt to the climate. When long summer days stretch on and dinner time rolls around, I’m not preparing an elaborate meal. I’m not even turning on the oven, if I can help it. I start reaching for the easiest recipes, and I lean into all the amazing tropical fruit that’s in season — in my own backyard. Those vibrant flavors revive us after a long, hot day.
