The scrub jay is the only species of bird native to the state and is a favorite of local birders as it is found nowhere else in the world. Unfortunately, it is endangered with fewer than 10,000 birds remaining. This beauty was photographed at the Indrio Scrub Preserve, a 13-acre site in eastern St. Lucie County and a popular location for the local birding community.
