MORE THAN A CLUB – IT’S A LIFESTYLE

The Legacy provides a country club lifestyle centered around golf, tennis, friends and social activities like no other on the Treasure Coast

Man standing on golf courseAs general manager of The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club, Adam J. Horvit sees himself as a pilot taking club members on a magnificent adventure aboard the priceless aircraft that is their club within the gates of PGA Village in Port St. Lucie.

Horvit, who joined the administration in June of 2022, takes pride in guiding the member-owned club into a new chapter in an already outstanding history.

Course designer George Fazio earned his reputation as a master of the game on the PGA Tour in the 1930s and 40s. In 1984, Fazio and nephew Jim created The Reserve Golf and Country Club. The facility was later renamed The Legacy after Fazio’s passing to commemorate his passion for the sport and an exceptional example of course design. A multi-million-dollar renovation and expansion of The Legacy, the only George Fazio-designed course in Florida, ascertains that when the club celebrates its 40th anniversary in January, it remains the exemplary course Fazio originally envisioned. It is a testament to the facility’s superlative amenities that several current members have been part of The Legacy since its beginnings.

Legacy members remain fiercely devoted to the club, and for good reason. More of a lifestyle than just a place to play golf, The Legacy offers a winning combination of outstanding features and affordability.

Members literally saved the course by purchasing it from a former owner interested in selling it for development. With the strategic leadership of such a committed membership and Horvit in charge of day-to-day operations, The Legacy faces a secure and thriving future.

Horvit’s extensive experience includes a wealth of invaluable lessons gleaned from masters in the golf club and real estate management industries. The New England native’s love affair with golf began in his youth as a top junior golfer in Massachusetts where he also served as caddy for famous Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics players.

He translated a golf scholarship to Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale into a business degree. While still in college, he met Wayne Huizinga, Sr., owner of the Dolphins and founder of AutoNation and Waste Management. Huizinga, impressed with Horvit’s attitude and abilities, invited him to join the staff of the new golf course he was building in Stuart. He also later introduced Horvit to entrepreneur Otto J. Vitale, owner of the Ballantrae Golf and Yacht Club, a Jack Nicklaus-signature course in Port. St. Lucie.

“Otto mentored me in real estate and golf course management,” said Horvit, who would go on to be a managing partner of Champions Golf Course in Stuart and Palm Cove Golf & Yacht Club in Palm City.

“I have been taught by the best in the business to understand the complexities of managing golf courses.”

Horvit also helped to buy and sell more than a dozen golf courses from Vero Beach to Miami. He co-owned and managed David’s in the Courtyard, a 200-seat fine dining restaurant in Historic Downtown Stuart that for years was considered one of the best along the Treasure Coast. Before joining The Legacy, Horvit was headquartered at nearby PGA Verano, working as Division Area Sales Manager for South Florida, where he oversaw hundreds of real estate sales and transactions in seven prestigious Kolter Homes communities.

In his current position, Horvit feels fortunate to represent the extraordinary opportunities offered by The Legacy.

“We have an incredible value no one else has along the Treasure Coast,” he said.

“The prices of our memberships are unheard of for a private club.”

A country club lifestyle is centered around an 18-hole and nine-hole practice courses playing host to both U.S. Open Qualifiers and Florida State Senior Match Play, as well as six lighted Har-Tru tennis courts home to a variety of local and USTA leagues encompassing all ages and skill levels.

Members can also engage in pickleball and pop tennis, an easy new variation of tennis played with high-density foam paddles and low compression tennis balls. There is bocce ball and an 18-hole Fazio designed putt-putt, too, with friendly competition followed by dinners at the Sims Club or Fazio Grill. A robust calendar of social activities, and opportunities for both fine and casual dining keep members connected with each other.

“I was fortunate enough to assemble a unique team of colleagues to ensure a wonderful member experience. “

The Legacy is more than just great golf. It is also about other great amenities, great people, and great location. No wonder so many members never leave.
