Fish and grits is the quintessential meal of pioneer families along the Indian River Lagoon. This simple combination has sustained generations and has never lost its appeal. It is practical, economical and satisfying.
When my ancestors first settled on the river, they experienced a waterway dense with marine life. My generation has seen a significant decline in water quality and fish populations, but restoration efforts have given us hope.
