FAMILIES
Many descendants of George F. and Christine Guettler have attended St.
Anastasia School and John Carroll High School. Two of their grandsons, Jeff
and Conrad Guettler, back row left and center, work for the schools today.
Conrad has two children attending the schools: William, back row right, and
Patrick, front row right. Jeff’s youngest child, Bridget (holding her nephew,
Knox Marazzi) attends John Carroll, while two of his grandchildren, Clayton
and Kayla Marazzi, are students at St. Anastasia.

George F. Guettler and his new wife, Christine, along with his brother, Leo,
bought the Peerless Ice Cream business on North Seventh Street shortly after
moving to Fort Pierce in 1923. George and Leo made and delivered the
ice cream to towns in the area, while Christine made sodas and sundaes for
customers in the small ice cream shop.

and Leo moved south to Fort Pierce and George bought the
Peerless Ice Cream Company, located then on North Seventh
Street, just north of Orange Avenue. Working in the ice cream
factory, George’s workday started at 4:30 a.m., while Christine
worked in the ice cream parlor from noon until 10 p.m.
Their first child, Mary Elizabeth, was born in 1924, the first of
many, many Guettler children to be born in St. Lucie County.
Leo had also been working at the ice cream company,
which delivered the sweet treat to neighboring counties. A
