HOMES OF THE TREASURE COAST
environmental studies at Tulane. The Anspachs finished
construction and moved into their new home in March 2010.
Cecilia grew up in Biloxi, Miss., and wanted a plantation
style home. The couple were also influenced by New
Orleans architectural styles. They took pictures of beach
homes in Biloxi and visited a Coastal Living Idea House
in Tampa. “We took pictures of things that we liked,”
says Bill. “The outside appeal of the house is as important
as the inside. We bought a book called ‘What Not to
Build.’ We have a giant library of books on architecture.
Dan Wilberding is a master of scale and proportion. We
wanted to learn so we could speak the language with the
architect and builder.”
Bill and Cecilia came up with a design that they call
coastal plantation with a West Indies British Colonial
influence. “We had a perfect storm of the right people,”
says Bill. “When we had our meetings with Gary and
Dan and the others involved, everyone was on the
same page.”
“For me, it was about how the house sat on the lot,”
says Bill. “We wanted the house to look like it had been
here forever,” says Cecilia. “Landscape architect Daniel J.
Sugg drew up a footprint of where the house should be
placed on the lot to nestle it in the existing trees. Because
of the way it is situated on the lot, you would never know
that it’s a brand-new house.”
