Bob DeOrsey peeks through the Victorian miniature dollhouse he is
working on. Most of his work now is commissioned or donated to charity.
DeOrsey, opposite, adds a final touch to detail with a steady hand.

Age: 78
Background: Retired insurance
agent from Middletown, Md.
Craft: Building dollhouses
What most people don’t know about me: “I wrote the first
life insurance policies on John Glenn and the rest of the original
Mercury astronauts. No one had written a policy on someone
exploring space and we weren’t sure how to word it.”
Favorite holiday memory: “I had always wanted to play golf
on Christmas Day, but living up north, that wasn’t practical.
Our youngest son moved here and when we came to visit
him in 2002 we played golf on Christmas Day. My son passed
away two days before his 31st birthday this past January. He
was a great kid.”
