ith its mate outside of view, a male Florida sandhill crane
watches over its chicks on a sand pond. Cranes build their
nests together in shallow water to protect chicks from
predators. Males and females are nearly identical, except
during nesting season females turn brown for camouflage.
Sandhill cranes are monogamous and usually have two
chicks a year, with only one typically surviving. Florida
sandhill cranes do not migrate like other sandhill cranes. W
