ST. LUCIE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

This photo of Moore’s Creek, called “Dawn of the Century,’’ was taken at daybreak Jan. 1, 1900, by Harry Hill, a photographer who arrived in Fort Pierce in 1898 and whose Florida Photographic Concern would document much of the Treasure Coast’s early 20th century history. The landscape painter, A.E. “Bean’’ Backus, also captured the scene in one of his paintings. Both the photo and painting are on display at the St. Lucie County Regional History Center, 414 Seaway Drive, Fort Pierce.
