New bike lanes are prompting all kinds of foot-powered vehicles to take to
the roads.
South Jetty Park, with its colorful mosaic tile benches,
walkways, gazebos and old-fashioned bench swings facing
the inlet is busy. “I see families, people sitting on the benches
and swings, walking their dogs,” Burke said.
Carole Mushier, president of South Beach Association,
which represents 660 members including more than 30 businesses,
said the association requested a passive adult park
for South Jetty Park because there are other play parks for
children. “People just love the swings overlooking the inlet,”
she said.
Residents like the transformation of South Beach, she said.
“We especially love that it’s finished,” she said. “The plans
for this were probably 9 years old or older. The residents
were supporting our local businesses, and I think everyone
suffered through this project. But it’s beautiful now.”
The newly paved and
expanded roadway makes
for smooth driving out at
South Beach.
