changing the motel’s name again, this time to Beachfront
Inn and Inlet Grill.
Meanwhile, Bluewater Beach Grill at the end of Seaway,
across from the newly expanded and landscaped
South Jetty Park, is seeing a significant increase in business,
as is Hurricane Grill and Wings next door.
The time may be ripe for a few retail businesses focusing
on seaside-themed products in the area, said Allison
O’Connor, one of the owners of the Hurricane. An
empty lot is across the street from the new roundabout,
but no information was available on what plans there
might be for it.
“This area has really become a destination,”
O’Connor said. “The improvements have been wonderful
for us and for the businesses here.”
Both the Hurricane and the Bluewater have tables
outside. “More people sit outside than inside, it seems,”
said Donna Burke, Bluewater’s manager. The city put
in a 12-foot-wide sidewalk to allow room for the tables,
and paved the street with brick.
The restaurants and bars are focused on creating a
mini-entertainment district, O’Connor said. “We’ve had
two meetings with the city about it. We’d like to see
some events, some music, maybe some festivals, an art
show,” Burke said.
Burke, who also manages the Original Tiki and
Cobb’s Landing at Marina Square for Colin and Ian
Lloyd, said she would like to see block parties allowed
at the end of Seaway. “But we want to make sure that
whatever we do it goes along with what the residents of
the area want too.” >>
