For nearly two
decades, Dawn Miller, a local artist recognized for her talent and
contributions, has witnessed the lack of accessible programs and services for
adults with special needs in our community. Fueled by the absence of such
resources, Ms. Miller, alongside friend Sue De Palma,
embarked on a transformative journey to establish Village Arts VB, a place where
differently-abled adults are cherished for their exceptional abilities. “Our vision was to create a haven of acceptance, brimming with creative opportunities,
genuine care, and individual attention,” shared Ms. Miller.
Village Arts VB offers
a tapestry of experiences from art classes, cooking classes and shared meals to cultivating gardens,
embracing music and dance, fostering teamwork through
games, and giving back to the community. “To me and our volunteers, the most rewarding aspect
of this initiative is the privilege of connecting with individuals whose
authenticity and affection radiate pure joy,” added Ms. Miller.
To honor the diverse
of our community, Village Arts VB joins hands with Art at the Emerson Gallery
to present the anticipated “Celebrating Special Needs Village Artists”
exhibition.
A Meet the Artists reception is
scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5:30
p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Emerson Center. This inclusive gathering warmly
welcomes all members of the community to come together and show support for the
artists; no prior registration or reservation is necessary. The event will
showcase a captivating array of handcrafted treasures
and artwork available for purchase. The proceeds from this exhibition will
benefit both the Village artists and the sustenance of Village Arts
scholarships and programs.
Mark your calendar for
the exhibition, which will run from October 5, 2023,
to November 1, 2023. The gallery’s doors are open Monday through Friday from
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., inviting all to witness the transformative power of
creativity.
