Friends and members of the Indian River Land Trust were
treated to an evening of s’mores by the fire pit and dancing
to the sounds of the James Jordan Orchestra. The 14th year of
the event raised more than $200,000, which will help continue
its land protection work. Since the trust was formed in 1990,
it has: purchased and restored McKee Botanical Garden;
helped protect Jungle Trail and Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge;
established a fund for the Archie Carr Refuge for Sea Turtles;
and commissioned the county’s first environmental land study.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art started its season out with
a stunning black-tie gala that featured a lecture on American
landscape artist Thomas Cole. Also speaking were Elizabeth
Mankin Kornhauser, who is organizing an upcoming Cole
exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Stephen
Kornhauser, chief conservator at the New York Historical
Society. The event, which was sponsored by Indian River
Estates, was catered by Elizabeth Kennedy & Co.
