Port St. Lucie

City’s actions bode well
for the future
When General Development Corp. created Port St. Lucie, it envisioned a residential
development for retired snowbirds with very little commercial property and
no downtown.
But even best laid plans go astray and soon the city became a bedroom community
where young families could buy affordable homes, but had to go elsewhere to find work.
In this issue of Port St. Lucie Magazine, longtime city observer Susan Burgess takes a look
at the steps officials are taking to improve the employment outlook, that in turn, is expected
to swell the city’s population Page 20. She also outlines on Page 12 what the city is doing
now and in the years to come to provide plenty of drinkable water for those thousands
of newcomers. And on Page 16, Burgess looks at the improvements being made to ensure
those traveling Floresta Drive will do so safely.
Writer Greg Gardner showcases the perfect home for three generations on a very private
lot with wonderful views in the exclusive community of Tesoro. Page 24
Those looking for something to do over the lazy, hazy days of summer only need to turn
to Page 6 for the rundown of events ranging from educational to exciting, fitness to fun.
And there’s a lot more to read about your neighbors starting on Page 42 where we profile
a renaissance rancher, a child advocate and a record store owner.
So, sit back with your favorite iced tea and catch up on what’s happening around town
and we will be back with another issue in the fall.
