Community Center in 1984 and added a second classroom
building in 1987 in the Prima Vista Boulevard area.
MOVE TO CALIFORNIA SITE
The first classroom building at the present 500 NW California
Blvd. location was built in 1991. Florida Atlantic University
had been offering bachelor-level classes at various area
locations and in 2002, partnered with the community college
to open the IRCC/FAU Joint Use Campus. Eventually, the St.
Lucie West Campus became entirely an IRSC facility and was
renamed the Pruitt Campus.
In his 12 years as provost of the Port St. Lucie campus,
Harvey Arnold, a former economics professor and department
chairman, has dealt with many changes, all of which
have benefited the residents of Port St. Lucie. In 2008, IRCC
became Indian River State College, providing the opportunity
for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in their home county.
In 2013, Arnold led the St. Lucie West Campus into a new
area of growth as it evolved into the Pruitt Campus. The
campus was named in honor of former Florida state Sen. Ken
Pruitt, a strong advocate for local educational opportunities.
