n American robin, a migrating songbird that flies south for
the winter, rests on a Brazilian pepper tree laden with berries,
one of its favorite seasonal foods. The Brazilian pepper,
introduced into Florida as an ornamental plant in the 19th
century, is harmful to the environment, crowding out native
trees and animals. When robins eat overripe and fermented
berries, they become drunk and can be seen flying erratically.
