Doretha Hair Truesdell’s dream of a beautiful museum filled with vibrant paintings by the 26 African American landscape artists known as the Highwaymen began in 2004, when the group was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Now, 20 years later, that museum is finally being prepared to open. The sand-colored Jackie L. Caynon Sr. Building on Avenue D, noticeable for its five white pillars in front and a staircaseon the side, is its home.
